Large Hadron Collider.

Posted by RoboHorn  Published in Music, Saturday Sillies, Technology

Sorry for a break in the Tea posts but I thought I would do my bit for Geek-dom and music by posting a good description about what CERN’s Large Hadron Collider is all about. I don’t know about you but it seems a bit confusing to me. Let’s see what Wikipedia has to say about it..

CERN’s Large Hadron Collider…

Info via Wikipedia:

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is the world’s largest and highest-energy particle accelerator, intended to collide opposing particle beams, of either protons at an energy of 7 TeV/particle, or lead nuclei at an energy of 574 TeV/nucleus.

The Large Hadron Collider was built by the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) with the intention of testing various predictions of high-energy physics, including the existence of the hypothesised Higgs boson and of the large family of new particles predicted by supersymmetry. It lies in a tunnel 27 kilometres (17 mi) in circumference, as much as 175 metres (570 ft) beneath the Franco-Swiss border near Geneva, Switzerland. It is funded by and built in collaboration with over 10,000 scientists and engineers from over 100 countries as well as hundreds of universities and laboratories.

On 10 September 2008, the proton beams were successfully circulated in the main ring of the LHC for the first time. On 19 September 2008, the operations were halted due to a serious fault between two superconducting bending magnets. Due to the resulting damage and additional safety features being added, the LHC is scheduled to be operational again no sooner than September 2009…

Make sense? Did that help?

If not, give this a try:

How about now? Make more sense? No? Well, At least it’s more entertaining!

I now return you to your regularly scheduled tea posts… By the way, while writing this, I was enjoying a boyant and flavorful cup of Iced Lipton’s, boiled from one of those Family sized bags… Hey, it  has 105mg of Protective Antioxidants in EVERY Serving!

Duff is “Back in the Saddle again”

Posted by TruANTOlogy  Published in Passion of the G33k, Radio

Let’s start with an apology for not keeping the site flowing with new gooey goodness.  I’ve been putting in over 60 hours a week at work.  If you’re lucky, i’ll write next about my transition from miserable Grumman tech to Happy Maytag (well, GE really) man.

If you’ve known me personally for any length of time, you’ll know that a bit over 3 years ago, I founded & ran an online radio station called PDG Radio.  It started out small, but within only a few months, it had one HELLUVA following.   Fit with regular DJ’s, weekly variety shows (available live or in podcasts) & fully interactive web experience, you can imagine why.

It got so popular in fact, that it became too much for me to run alone.  I had a little help with production from a California producer (Rick Barry, A.K.A. DJ Teazer), but everything else, including web management, promotions, PR, playlist rotation and ALL board-op duties were left on me.  I couldn’t find anyone willing to help & It became too much after a while.  I shut it down and never looked back…until now.

About a month ago, I received an email from Rick.  As it turns out, he started his own radio network after PDG Radio closed its’ doors.  We got to talking / catching up, and he practically begged me to do a weekly show for him…you know, just for fun.  I told him that I was flattered at his offer, and that I’d give it some thought…a thought that took less than an hour to decide: Sure, what the hell!

So far, I’ve produced & hosted 2 live episodes of “The Shop”, which showcases the best damn rock *headbangs* and have a pre-recorded episode ready to air tomorrow night.  I gotta say, It was like I had never left!  Running the boards and going on air never felt better.

There’s this problem though.  My mind never just leaves good enough alone.  Let me explain…

PDG Radio had a plan; a vision so to speak.  A vision that for as long as it existed, worked like a charm.  I don’t want to divulge too much at this point, but think of this: Going out to get the morning mail and finding a shoebox-sized box filled with discs that were sent by “Our Lady Peace’s” manager with “stuff we thought you’d want to play on the station.”

Getting back into the game makes me want to fully “Get back into the game.”  I don’t want to just DJ or run the board for two hours a week…I want to do it all over again.

Note to self: Don’t FUCK it up this time!!

I received a call this evening from Rick, telling me that his station (the one I now do “The Shop” on) was on shaky grounds, and might not last too much longer.  Not the best of news, but I almost expected it from the start.

So that leaves me at the drawing board.  First things first, to pick a catchy name.  Something short, sweet, and available.  I’d want both the .com and .fm domains.  The web design will follow shortly…and i’m already prepping the music database and board to work the way it used to under these hands o’ mine :-D

The failure-point of PDG Radio was the lack of teamwork.  That’s where it has to be different this time.  Before ANYTHING gets too far out of hand, i’ll need a team of passionate & likewise-minded individuals to be a part of the posse.  The pay is for shit, but the fun’s definitely there.  For now though, know that the dream is alive and will soon be a reality.

This is Duff (That’s my radio handle…cool, aint it?), and this concludes our blogcast day.

First “Lego Starwars,” Now “Lego Guitar Hero??!”

Posted by TruANTOlogy  Published in Music, Technology

In genuine geek form, I found something quite spectacular and thought it would be a great addition to the site.  Originally found here, some truly dedicated fan/geek spent WEEKS putting together using stop-motion photography!

(PS, Stop-motion anything = FTW!)

In case you aren’t a fan of the game (Guitar Hero 3: Legends Of Rock), the song is “Impulse,” & is by “An Endless Sporadic.”  If care to play it, it can be found in the bonus section of the game.

So without further adieu, get out your legos and try and keep up!
