Blackberry App WORLD

Posted by RoboHorn  Published in Technology

I ran across this today and it may be old news, but it’s new “news” to me so here ya go!!! It looks like Blackberry has decided to provided an App Store of its own. Yup, Just like Apple and the iPhone, they are working on a “store” to:

..Find tons of great applications designed for your BlackBerry® smartphone in one convenient place – BlackBerry App World™. Personalize your BlackBerry smartphone with games, social networks, personal productivity applications and so much more…

Click here for more information on Blackberry’s App World and
Click here to Register for BlackBerry App World and be e-mailed when it is available!

I think it’ll be nice to have a Blackberry supported Apps Store, a “one stop shop” of Apps that will work for your Blackberry without having to hunt around for things that might work.

Large Hadron Collider.

Posted by RoboHorn  Published in Music, Saturday Sillies, Technology

Sorry for a break in the Tea posts but I thought I would do my bit for Geek-dom and music by posting a good description about what CERN’s Large Hadron Collider is all about. I don’t know about you but it seems a bit confusing to me. Let’s see what Wikipedia has to say about it..

CERN’s Large Hadron Collider…

Info via Wikipedia:

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is the world’s largest and highest-energy particle accelerator, intended to collide opposing particle beams, of either protons at an energy of 7 TeV/particle, or lead nuclei at an energy of 574 TeV/nucleus.

The Large Hadron Collider was built by the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) with the intention of testing various predictions of high-energy physics, including the existence of the hypothesised Higgs boson and of the large family of new particles predicted by supersymmetry. It lies in a tunnel 27 kilometres (17 mi) in circumference, as much as 175 metres (570 ft) beneath the Franco-Swiss border near Geneva, Switzerland. It is funded by and built in collaboration with over 10,000 scientists and engineers from over 100 countries as well as hundreds of universities and laboratories.

On 10 September 2008, the proton beams were successfully circulated in the main ring of the LHC for the first time. On 19 September 2008, the operations were halted due to a serious fault between two superconducting bending magnets. Due to the resulting damage and additional safety features being added, the LHC is scheduled to be operational again no sooner than September 2009…

Make sense? Did that help?

If not, give this a try:

How about now? Make more sense? No? Well, At least it’s more entertaining!

I now return you to your regularly scheduled tea posts… By the way, while writing this, I was enjoying a boyant and flavorful cup of Iced Lipton’s, boiled from one of those Family sized bags… Hey, it  has 105mg of Protective Antioxidants in EVERY Serving!

Lotus Notes headed down the same “Dead man walking” path Windoze took with Vista

Posted by truffuls  Published in Rants & Praises, Technology

Don’t get me started, but 8 and now 8.5 really suck. Sorry guys but what in the world were you thinking with this bloated, slow and buggy thing? Holy crap, I’ve been a loyal dedicated developer since 96 but man, I’m looking for another platform after this. After months of trying to play nice with your Eclipse nightmare I returned to using nlnotes.exe. All that Java and Eclipse created a program suffering from extreme AADD (Acute Attention Deficit Disorder). I was tired of staring at dozens of cursors throughout my documents and constantly redoing my work because your program, once again, lost focus on what I was doing and decided to go off and play somewhere else; like deleting my mail file instead of my selected messages!

I’ve been so happy in my nlnotes world, everything was great. I got my work done, had no crashes, ran a sleek program with no excess weight. And then, being a g33k who tries her best to live on the bleeding edge and being a team player, I install 8.5 on a test machine and am greeted with this crap:

Notes 8.5 sux

Notes 8.5 sux

Why must I install/load the bloated Standard version to access Designer?????? nlnotes is a wonderful thing, truly. Why take it away from the power users? I don’t have time to wait for all the “pretty” and bloat to load. I’m a one-person department with a killer work load. I need fast, efficient and dependable.

7 was sleek and powerful. I’m seeing a disturbing similarity between Notes 8+ and Vista; same bloat, same sluggishness, same attempt to wow the public with a pretty wrapper while the item inside the box isn’t worth the install effort.

It was Vista, Office 2007 and IE7 that made me switch after decades of loyalty from Windoze to Mac, OpenOffice and FireFox. On CNN yesterday there was a “Quick Vote” asking if Micro$oft should drop Vista. When I checked late in the day the stats were 72% YES!

Will Notes 8+ result in the same mass exodus of users as the Vista debacle? I’m kinda feeling the pull from the crowds running by me. I mean, we have over 20K users here and none of the hundreds I’ve spoke to are happy with it. Sure, the sheep that just read their email will get by cos they don’t know any better and don’t really rely on a computer on a daily basis.

Wake up IBM, before its too late. You’re not exactly cornering the market and the followers you had up to Notes 7 were loyal, but force this crap on them and they will run for the hills while you softly weep in the corner and wonder where everyone went. You’re already teetering on the edge with your change in licensing.

First “Lego Starwars,” Now “Lego Guitar Hero??!”

Posted by TruANTOlogy  Published in Music, Technology

In genuine geek form, I found something quite spectacular and thought it would be a great addition to the site.  Originally found here, some truly dedicated fan/geek spent WEEKS putting together using stop-motion photography!

(PS, Stop-motion anything = FTW!)

In case you aren’t a fan of the game (Guitar Hero 3: Legends Of Rock), the song is “Impulse,” & is by “An Endless Sporadic.”  If care to play it, it can be found in the bonus section of the game.

So without further adieu, get out your legos and try and keep up!
